USS ALPINE (APA-92) OFF PORTLAND, OREGON, MAY 10th, 1944
The Alpine was awarded five battle stars for World War II service. The ship
survived two kamikaze
direct hits at the battles of Leyte and Okinawa losing 21 men and having 31
injured.
